Located on the banks of Meenachil river, 5 km east of Pala in Kottayam district, Bharananganam is an important Christian Pilgrimage centre. The thousand year old St. Mary's Church is the place where the mortal remains of St. Alphonsa are kept. The church is also known as Anakkallu Palli. St.Alphonsa (1910-1946) is the first person to be conferred sainthood from the Kerala Church. Devotees throng on July 28, the day on which St. Alphonsa’s death anniversary falls, at the church. Bharananaganam is also famous for the Sree Krishna Temple in the banks of river Meenachil.
