Often referred to as the ‘Paradise of the South’, Kovalam is one of the most beautiful beaches in the country attracting thousands of tourists across the globe. Typical for the Kerala experience, Kovalam reward you with vistas of coconut trees stretching to the horizon. Literally, the word ‘Kovalam’ means coconut groves and it goes without saying Kovalam is true to its name. Generally, sea at Kovalam is shallow as one can walk up to 100 meters into it without losing ground. Kovalam constitutes three crescent shaped beaches separated by rocky outcroppings. All these coves are ideal for sunbathing, surfing, snorkeling, swimming and canoeing.
