VelankanniThe church of Mother Mary located here is the single most important attraction in Velankanni. Every year, Velankanni sees large influx of pilgrims as the Pope declared it a holy city. For this reason, the city is famously nicknamed as the ‘Lourdes of East.’ Velankanni is located on the shores of the Bay of Bengal 350 km south of Chennai and 12 km south of Nagapattinam on the Coromandel Coast, in Tamil Nadu.
