Southern Symphony

  Day 01 - Madras.  

>

Arrive Madras Airport. You will be met and transferred to the hotel.        Check in for 2 nights.
Madras is the capital of Tamil Nadu state. It's the fourth largest city in India and is a bustling commercial center. Madras boasts of an interesting flair of South Indian Art, Architecture, dance, music and festivals with rich cultural traditions.

Afternoon enjoy a short sight seeing tour of Madras city. This includes, Museum, St Thomas Mount, and Marina beach. Overnight stay in the Hotel.

  Day 02 - Madras / Kanchipuram / Madras.

After an early breakfast drive to Kanchipuram (70kms/2hrs).
Later proceed to Kanchipuram, known as the city of Thousand Temples. Visit the interesting temples. Kanchipuram is also famous for its exquisite hand woven silk fabrics.Drive back to Madras.

Overnight stay in the Hotel.
  Day 03 - Madras / Mysore.

Early Morning gets transferred to the Railway station to board the Shatabdi Express to Mysore.
Afternoon, arrive Mysore. You will be transferred to the hotel for 2 nights stay.
In the evening visit Chamundi Hills and the fruits & Vegetable market.

  Day 04 - Mysore.

Morning enjoy a visit to Mysore Maharaja's Palace built in 1911 and the Chamarajendra Art Gallrey. In the afternoon drive to Srirangapattanam to see the ruins of the capital, the summer palace and Mausoleum of Tippu Sultan.

  Day 05 - Mysore/Nagarhole.

After breakfast drive to Nagarhole (90kms/3hrs). Check into the Resort for 2 nights.
The Nagarhole National park has a very rich variety of plant and animal life to offer. Rest of the day is free.

  Day 06 - Nagarhole.  
>

Visit into the National park to view the animals. Rest of the day is for activities within the resort.

  Day 07 - Nagarhole / Calicut.

Morning, drive to Calicut (150kms/4hrs). Check into the Hotel for the night.
Evening visit the Kappad beach, where the first Portuguese Navigator, Vasco De Gama landed in 1498.

  Day 08 - Calicut / Guruvayur / Cochin.  
>

Drive to Cochin enroute visiting Guruvayoor. Visit Punathur Kotta, the elephant stable where the temple elephants are taken cared. Guruvayoor temple is one of the famous pilgrim centers of Hindus. The temple owns nearly 60 elephants. It has a huge pond where the elephants take bath and a quarantine area where sick elephants are attended. Later drive to Cochin, also known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea.

 Check into the hotel for 2 nights. Evening enjoy a sunset cruise around Cochin harbour. Overnight stay in the Hotel.

  Day 09 - Cochin.

Morning visit the older part Cochin. This includes the Dutch Palace, Jewish Synagogue, St Francis church and Chinese fishing nets
Evening drive to the theatre to witness the Kathakali dance, the tradition dance form of Kerala.

  Day 10 - Cochin / Alleppey.

Check out of the hotel late morning and drive to Alleppey, famed for its backwaters. Alleppey is also called as The Venice of the West with its infinite number of canals. Check into the Houseboat for the night. 
Houseboats are former Cargo boats, now restructured and fitted with all amenities. There will be a cook and 2 oarsmen to assist you in the boat. All food are cooked and served inside the boat.

It has a bedroom with a toilet, a living area where you can relax and have food and a kitchen. The boat will cruise through the backwaters in the daytime and will anchor itself at a convenient location at the night. Overnight stay in the Houseboat.

  Day 11 - Alleppey / Kumarakom.

After breakfast disembark from the Houseboat at Kumarakom. Check into the backwater resort for 2 nights. Rest of the day is free to relax by the poolside.

  Day 12 - Kumarakom.

Day free in the resort. Suggest to try some rejuvenating ayurvedic massages at the Ayuevedic center in the resort. Evening enjoy a sunset cruise in the rice boat.

Day 13 - Kumarakom / Thekkady.

Drive to Thekkady (140kms/4hrs). Check into the hotel for 2 nights.
Evening, Enjoy a boat ride in Lake periyar to see the wild life.

Day 14 - Thekkady.

Morning, visit to the plantations to see the different spices. Later in the afternoon drive to Dindigal. Check into The Cardamom House, In Cardamom House the atmosphere is completely informal. It is located in the close proximity to the mountain ranges of Western Ghats. The rooms have the view of the hill and the lake. In the evening visit to the local village market area to view the unspoiled rural village life.

Day 15 - Dindigal / Chettinad.

Drive to Chettinad and check into the heritage hotel for the night.
Karaikudi and 74 other villages comprise Chettinad, the homeland of the Nattukottai Chettiars. The Chettiars were a prosperous banking community who ventured overseas to do business in South and Southeast Asia in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Their legacies are the fascinating houses of Chettinad they built with simple materials. 

These houses have to be seen and believed.Apart from the houses, Karaikudi offers extensive antique shopping, weekly shandy [village market, a number of temples, visits to Craftmen working with wood and metal, silversmiths and goldsmiths, attractive Textiles and exciting Chettiar cuisine.

Day 16 - Chettinad / Madurai.

Drive to Madurai, one of the ancient cities of India. Check into the hotel for 2 nights.The main attraction in Madurai is the Meenakshi Temple, with its 12 towers, each at a height of 45 - 50 meters. Evening, visit the Meenakshi temple and the Thousand Pillared Mandapam

Day 17 - Madurai.

Morning enjoy a brief sight seeing of Madurai City. This includes the Gandhi Museum, Thirumala Nayakar Mahal and Mariammam Teppakulam, the temple tank.
Rest of the day is free for shopping..

Day 18 - Madurai / Madras.

Morning is free. Later get transferred to the Airport to fly to Madras.
Arrive Madras and drive to Mahabalipuram. Check into the Hotel for 2 nights.
Rest of the day is free to relax at the beach.

Day 19 - Mahabalipuram.

Morning, enjoy a sight seeing of Mahabalipuram
Mahabalipuram is situated on the shore of Bay of Bengal and was a port of Pallavas. It is historically known for its rock cut monuments. The interesting monuments to see are Arjuna's Penance, a bas relief, 27 metres long and 9 metres high, The rock cut Mandapams situated within a radius of 1kms are known for their design and execution.

Also interesting are the Rathas (temple chariots) with their Gopurams, multipillared and sculptured walls.
